From interpretation of music, story and character to vocal and physical freedom and expression, this 8-day intensive program promises to guide you to new levels of artistry and confidence.
During the program singers will work on a pre-assigned opera scene(s) and opera arias or songs from their repertoire. Singers will perform on at least one concert and the final program of fully staged opera scenes.
Creative Process with Carol Castel (daily), explores stage craft, character, musical and physical expression from focusing on the artist within each singer. While singers work with theater games, tableaus, masks and improvisation to unleash expressive power, discussion and exercises develop the tools needed to integrate power and strategy into stagecraft excellence.- receive two private sessions with each member of the music faculty.
Diction explores the elements of lyric diction. Rules of pronunciation in German, French and Italian will be studied with direct application to the vocal repertoire. Style and expressive lyric phrasing of the language through text and voal interpretation will be emphasized.
Each participant will receive two private coaching sessions. The work will focus on style, diction, interpretation and musicianship in preparation for the opera scene and concert performances.
Voice Coaching with Mary Burgess and Steven Nanni. Each participant will receive at least two private coaching session with a voice instructor. The sessions will offer participants the opportunity to address vocal obstacles they ay be experiencing, without reworking their basic vocal technique. Fundamentals of basic Bel Canto singing such as vocal freedom, physical tension release, breathing and support, posture and vowel work will be explored.
Movement/Dance with Stephanie A. Surowka-Sanders, will meet each morning and is custom designed to address the physical needs of singers as well as provide a physical warm up for each day. Classes will include work on mind/body awareness, alignment and posture, body language and stage presence as well as choreography.
During the program each participant will perform in at least two master classes given by faculty members.
